October 12, 2021The Cape Town Press Club pays tribute to Val Boje and Allan Greenblo
Val Boje retired earlier this year from the editor’s chair at the Pretoria News and was at the time of her death the chair of the National Press Club. Her career-long association with the capital city’s metropolitan daily newspaper demonstrated a deep commitment to that city’s civic affairs, its individual citizens of all ethnic groups, and the community of which she was so intimate a part.
Allan Greenblo, a son of Cape Town, who died on 11 October, was a co-founder of Finance Week in 1978 and edited that journal from 1982 to 1995. He subsequently became the managing director of the media group that is today known as Arena Holdings. At the time of his death, Allan was the publisher of Today’s Trustee, a quarterly magazine focussed on this country’s retirement fund sector. He was held in high regard as one of South Africa’s finest financial journalists.
The Press Club extends its sincere condolences to the families, friends and workplace colleagues of Val and Allan and recognises their considerable contributions to the integrity, ethical standards and professionalism of journalism. We are poorer for their going.
