Grogan on Corona

Covid-19 Message to Cape Town Press Club Members

We continue to hold thumbs that the national lockdown will have the desired impact of mitigating the spread of Covid-19. It was surely done in the nick of time. I hope you are safe and in good health.

It was the correct choice that days before the announcement of the lockdown, we took the decision to postpone all functions, ironically having to cancel epidemiologist Dr Marvin Hsiao, who was going to address us on the coronavirus. Postponing a rather spectacular line-up of speakers was deeply disappointing. The year ahead was so full of promise …

Yes, these are unprecedented times, but I assure you that the club is not in danger of disappearing. We have sufficient goodwill and resources to bide our time until conditions allow us to hold functions once again. These may take a new form and the committee will discuss the alternatives. We very much miss our gatherings.
You can still follow us on Twitter for all things journalism, and visit our Facebook page, both of which we are keeping active.

A big thank you to Lalage Maurer, our club secretary, who is using this time to complete many arduous and time-consuming administrative tasks we usually keep her too busy to accomplish!

Special thanks to Tony Grogan for the great cover picture.
