Professor Deresh Ramjugernath on his inaugural year as Rector and Vice-Chancellor of Stellenbosch University

Prof Deresh Ramjugernath was appointed the 13th Rector and Vice-Chancellor of Stellenbosch University on 1 April 2025. He will reflect on his inaugural year as Rector and Vice-Chancellor of Stellenbosch University at the Cape Town Press Club on 27 March.

Ramjugernath was previously Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Pro Vice-Chancellor: Innovation, Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

He is currently Vice-President of the Academy of Science of South Africa.

Ramjugernath is a scientist in the field of chemical engineering and specifically chemical thermodynamics and separation technology, and he became the youngest full professor in this field in Africa at age 31.

Professor Ramjugernath will take questions.
