Prof Jonathan Jansen on the Leadership Crisis in South African Universities

Professor Jonathan Jansen will deliver the Cape Town Press Club 2023 Donwald Pressly – Barry Streek Memorial Lecture: “From UCT to UNISA: The crisis in leadership in South African universities – and what to do about it”.

Prof Jansen is a distinguished professor in education at Stellenbosch University and president of the Academy of Science of South Africa. He was rector and vice-chancellor of the University of the Free State from 2009 to 2016.

He has received numerous awards and honours, including the Education Africa Lifetime Award, Stanford University’s inaugural Alumni Excellence Award,  honorary degrees from universities in Scotland, the USA and South Africa. He is a fellow of the International Academy of Education. In 2021 he received the Human Sciences Research Council and Universities South Africa’s Gold Medal.
