Prof Jonathan Jansen, Distinguished Professor of Education, on the new proposed school’s curriculum

The overhaul of the South African school history curriculum has been marred by controversy. Jonathan Jansen, Distinguished Professor of Education at Stellenbosch University and the past President of the Academy of Science of South Africa, has been an outspoken critic of the new proposed curriculum.

Professor Jansen will give an address to the Cape Town Press Club with the title “Show me your curriculum, and I’ll show you who’s in power”.

Jansen holds a PhD from Stanford as well as honorary doctorates from four universities, including the University of Edinburgh. He is the author of the award-winning book, Knowledge in the Blood, and his recent books include Corrupted, a study of chronic dysfunction in South African universities, and The Decolonisation of Knowledge.

He was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and was the Chin Yidan Global Fellow at Harvard University in 2024.

He will take questions.
