Investigative Journalist Caryn Dolley on Organised Crime
Award-winning Daily Maverick journalist Caryn Dolley has spent years tracking corrupt cops, gangs and their kingpins in South Africa and across the world.
She will speak to the Cape Town Press Club about her latest investigations and her book, The Untouchables: Drug Lords, Dirty Cops, and South Africa’s Darkest Secrets.
Dolley says organised crime is on a vast scale, with criminals co-opting police and gutting the institutions meant to stop them.
The Untouchables, her fifth book, is a journalist’s life work vindicated in real time. The cast of characters includes cartel members, accused cops, indicted politicians and various enablers across the private sector and security industry.
