Premier Alan Winde on The Government of National Unity
Alan Winde has been Premier of the Western Cape since 2019. He was re-elected to a second term this year after the Democratic Alliance secured 55% of votes cast in the provincial elections.
Born and raised in Knysna, Winde was a local businessman. His political career began in local government in the early 1990s, and he moved to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament in 1999. He held numerous leadership positions in the DA provincial parliamentary caucus, and key executive positions in the provincial government, before rising to the premiership in 2019. He has long been a champion of the devolution of powers to provinces and cities.
The Premier will address the Cape Town Press Club on what the government of national unity means for the country, and for the province.
