Peter Attard Montalto on how the election will shape SA’s economy and reform momentum
Peter Attard Montalto is the Managing Director, Global Lead, Capital Markets, Political Economy and JET at Krutham, the SA-based research-led consulting company.
Montalto is a leading economist and advisor with extensive experience analysing the politics, reform momentum and macroeconomics of South Africa. He particularly works on complex and contentious issues at the intersection of policy, politics and finance. He has broad experience covering other emerging markets over his career, including Central and Eastern Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. Montalto works with counterparts at the highest level of government and the private sector, supporting South Africa’s biggest banks and corporates, organised business as well as offshore and onshore portfolio investors. He was previously Head of Emerging Europe, Middle East and Africa Economics at Japanese Bank Nomura and, before that, was an Emerging Markets economist at Lehman Brothers. He studied at St John’s College at the University of Cambridge and holds an MA in mathematics and economics. He is a trustee of the South African education charity Breadline Africa.
