Judge Dennis Davis on the GNU and the VAT adjustment
Judge Davis, now retired from the High Court, was also Judge President of the Competition Appeal Court of Cape Town. He served as a legal advisor to the Constitutional Assembly during the formation of South Africa’s new constitution. Judge Davis has extensively published in academic journals and co-written eight books on a number of legal subjects. Judge Dennis Davis is well known to the public due to his popular TV programme, Judge For Yourself,
We are honoured to have Judge Davis address the Cape Town Press Club as the GNU appears to be at breaking point due to the row, among other disputes, over a VAT adjustment. After years of advising government on its tax choices, Prof Davis is well placed to explain the significance, economically and politically, of the ANC’s proposal to increase VAT and also speak of other pressures on the fiscus that limit political options, in particular the bloated public sector wage bill.
He will take questions.
