Journalists Pauli van Wyk & Micah Reddy on their Malema exposé
Over the past two decades, EFF leader Julius Malema has amassed a personal fortune, according to investigative journalists Pauli van Wyk and Micah Reddy. In “Malema – Money. Power. Patronage.” they follow the money, uncovering how Malema has built his private wealth and political fiefdom. Some details are astounding, such as the VBS Bank saga.
But it also tells a bigger story: how money influences South African politics and how political leaders exploit the valid grievances of poor people to enrich themselves.
Pauli van Wyk is a financial crime investigator and former investigative journalist at Scorpio, Daily Maverick. She has won the Standard Bank Sikuvile Award for Journalist of the Year and Investigative Story of the Year.
Micah Reddy is the Africa coordinator at the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists. He was an investigative journalist at amaBhungane, reporting on the EFF’s extraction of public funds from Gauteng metros.
Pauli and Micah will speak to the Cape Town Press Club about their Malema exposé and take questions.
