Jeremy Vearey on the politics of policing and crime in the Western Cape

Jeremy Vearey, ex-MK cadre and former bodyguard to Madiba, was the deputy provincial commissioner of the Western Cape SAPS until his controversial axing in May 2021.

In his memoir, Into Dark Water, he paints a wide-angle portrait of policing, crime and politics in the Western Cape. Despite its frequent humour, a ‘dark stream’ runs beneath the text: the personal price that he has paid for following his calling.

Jeremy Vearey will address the Cape Town Press Club on the politics of policing and crime in the Western Cape and provide greater insight into the factors threatening law and order in the province.

He will take questions.
