Helen Zille – The Battle for Johannesburg

Helen Zille is a prominent South African politician currently serving as Chairperson of the Federal Council of the Democratic Alliance (DA), a position she has held since October 2019.

Zille began her career as a journalist before entering politics. She gained national recognition for her investigative reporting during apartheid and later transitioned into public service. Over the years, she has held several high-profile roles:

Since 2019, Zille has been a key strategist and power broker within the DA as Chairperson of the Federal Council. In 2025, she made headlines again by announcing her candidacy for Mayor of Johannesburg, aiming to bring her governance experience to South Africa’s largest city.

We are honoured to have Helen Zille address the Cape Town Press Club on “The Battle for Johannesburg”.

She will take questions.
