WEBINAR – André de Ruyter – The challenges facing Eskom
You are invited to a LIVE BROADCAST sponsored by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in conjunction with the Cape Town Press Club
South Africa’s seemingly intractable electricity woes have dragged on for over a decade, with load-shedding, soaring prices, and ballooning debt that has imperilled the country’s entire economy.
In January 2020, André de Ruyter stepped in as Group Chief Executive for Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd, facing the daunting task of sorting it all out.
In his 30-year career, De Ruyter has occupied various portfolios in the energy space both locally and internationally, including China and Germany. He has experience in managing coal, oil, chemical and gas businesses, including the marketing of export coal to international utilities and taking responsibility for the operations of very large coal and gas conversion plants, including electricity generation.
A seasoned executive, he was a member of the Sasol group executive committee from 2009 to 2014. Prior to taking up his position at Eskom, he had been CEO of Nampak since 2014. De Ruyter holds an MBA from the Nyenrode Business University in the Netherlands, a Bachelor of Law (LLB) from the University of South Africa, and a Bachelor of Civil Law and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pretoria.
De Ruyter will address the Cape Town Press Club on the challenges facing Eskom. He will take questions.
