Veteran television news journalist Jeremy Thompson, known for being an anchor at Sky News, returns to South Africa to talk about his book - Breaking News.

 

Thompson started his career as a foreign correspondent in 1993. He was based in South Africa for four years covering the last years of apartheid and the election of Nelson Mandela. He also covered the genocide in Rwanda, as well as wars in Somalia, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Angola, and Mozambique. He was the first TV journalist to broadcast live as British peacekeeping forces arrived in Kosovo. He also covered the first Gulf War, and in 2003 anchored Sky News coverage of the second Gulf War from inside Iraq. He presented every night for a month on the front line and was the first anchor to present from post-Saddam Baghdad. Thompson returned to South Africa to cover the death of Nelson Mandela and the murder trial of Oscar Pistorius.

 

Working journalists are welcome to attend for free if they do not want the meal. There will be the opportunity to put questions to the speaker. If one-on-one interviews are desired, please let us know in advance and we will inform the speaker and do our best to secure it.
