Rafique Gangat @ 6 Spin Street Restaurant [ LUNCH ]

Rafique Gangat tells a compelling story of life in South Africa’s diplomatic service in Bending the Rules: From De Klerk to Mandela: stories of a pioneering diplomat.

Gangat worked for Foreign affairs under the National Party and then for the ANC government, straddling the transition. It documents Gangat’s battles against bigotry and prejudice, but also includes a healthy dose of sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll. His former colleague, former deputy director general of foreign affairs, Derek Auret, describes the book as “a glimpse into the twilight world of apartheid in South Africa and the positive impact of an enlightened human spirit.”

Gangat, who now lives in Israel, will take questions.
