Paul Mashatile, ANC Treasurer General @ The Grill Room, Kelvin Grove

As a student, Paul Mashatile was an activist in the struggle against apartheid as a member of the Congress of South African Students, and was the co-founder and first president of the Alexandra Youth Congress. He was detained without trial from 1985-1989, and participated in a nationwide protest by engaging in an 18-day hunger strike. When the African National Congress and the South African Communist Party were unbanned in 1990, he helped re-establish them and continued to organise on their behalf. He has held various administrative positions in Gauteng, including serving in its legislature as Leader of the House.

ANC Treasurer General Paul Mashatile will address the Cape Town Press Club on Tuesday 24 July 2018. His address comes amid public debate around the proposed process of expropriation without compensation, while at the same time his party (and others) will start preparing for the Elections of 2019. Mashatile will address these and other issues and will take questions.

Working journalists are welcome to attend for free if they do not want the meal. There will be the opportunity to put questions to the speaker. If one-on-one interviews are desired, please let us know in advance and we will inform the speaker and do our best to secure it.
