John Scott on Column Writing @ The Pavilion, Kelvin Grove

COCKTAIL/SUPPER FUNCTION

“50 YEARS OF COLUMN WRITING – SO WHAT’S CHANGED?”

John Scott, a former editor of the Cape Times was joint founder of the Cape Town Press Club in 1976. He has been a journalist since 1957, when he wrote regional news bulletins for the SABC. He worked at Cape Argus and the Windhoek Advertiser before joining the Cape Times in 1966 as medical correspondent. He reported on the first heart transplant two years later. In 1969 he was appointed to the parliamentary press gallery. His column, Notes in the House, ran for 30 years. In retirement, Scott writes a weekly PS column for Die Burger and has just brought out a collection of the best such columns in book form titled AND WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE TODAY, SIR?, his sixth book, but the first in 35 years.

Scott will address the Cape Town Press Club on how things have changed over the past 50 years, and how they haven’t, as reflected by his columns.
