I.E.C. Chairperson Glen Mashinini @ Grill Room, Kelvin Grove

As the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission, Glen Mashinini is the man ultimately responsible for South Africa holding a successful general election on 8 May. He will address the Cape Town Press Club on the challenge holding our 6th national democratic election poses in 2019.

There is much to be concerned about Eskom blackouts, youth voter apathy, communities vowing to boycott the elections, and the usual political party shenanigans.

Mashinini has spent most of 30 years in electoral management. He was part of the founding executive management team pivotal in establishing the IEC in 1998. He was specifically responsible for conceptualisation, business processes and organisational design, as well as institutional building for the delivery of free and fair elections.

Mashinini has also through his consultancy provided electoral advisory and management services to countries across the African continent, including Nigeria, Mozambique and Angola.
