His address comes amid public debate around the proposed process of expropriation without compensation, while at the same time his party (and others) will start preparing for the Elections of 2019. OUTA CEO Wayne Duvenage on undoing state capture. Former CEO of Avis, Wayne Duvenage, would not have dreamt a decade ago that today he would be the head of a robust civil society movement. What started off as a part-time campaign against SANRAL's e-tolls proposal has now become a tenacious civil rights organisation fighting corruption and tax abuse. OUTA (Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse) has taken on, among others, Jacob Zuma, the Guptas, the Bank of Baroda, SAA, SABC, Eskom and the nuclear deal, and recently Cape Town’s drought levy. OUTA CEO Wayne Duvenage will address the Cape Town Press Club on recent court successes and how civil society is holding the government to account. He will also explain how state capture happens in our state-owned enterprises.

In his book, Jacques Pauw describes police Major-General Jeremy Vearey as "the Western Cape's most avid anti-gang crusader”. Pauw chronicled how Vearey, as head of Operation Impi, came close to busting corruption in the police and to plugging the gun-running that is responsible for so much mayhem and death on the Cape Flats... But then he crossed Jacob Zuma’s path and his operations were closed down, related Pauw. Vearey has written his own account of his life in Jeremy vannie Elsies which will be available at the Press Club dinner.
